Default 1973 Mustang trunk floor replcace thread

Well I have been neglecting my project for a while but now it is time to grind on some metal! I am going to attack the rust in the trunk area. I am not a body man what so ever, I have never welded anything but its just metal lol. So with that being said that is the reason I am starting in the trunk area. My dad bought me the gas tank for my car for my Christmas present, actually he took me to Johns Mustangs here in Houston and told me to pick out my gift I was in heaven. So I got the tank the straps fuel filler gasket and the sending unit. Anyway back to the task at hand rust in the trunk area!!!!

Before I started I was measuring and evaluating, trying to figure out how to start this I was so confused! So I said F it. I got my air chisel out and went to town. Here are a couple of before pics!

And here is the new sheet metal and gas tank that will be going in.

Now for the removing of the trunk floor. I cut out the main parts of the floor with the reciprocating saw and with my air chisel I got the spot welds from the floor and frame. I got all the old sheet metal (if you wan to call it that) out. Now I need to wait for the weekend to grind down all the spot welds and patch a few pieces of sheet metal that need replacement.

And now for some more pics!

Yes that is the ground

the first piece out

RUST RUST RUST

more pics to come hope you enjoy for now!

Progress is slow but progress is good. I am taking my time trying to get everything right. This weekend I cut out the inner wheel well where it meets the floor pan, because on removal the air hammer tore that area up. Instead of buying a new inner wheel well I took the front valance that will be replaced anyway and cut it up and hammered it to shape. Here are the pics

Plus all the areas have been undercoated!
